Very often people doubt where to store contacts on a mobile phone: on a memory card or in the memory of their phone. After all, this is very important information that you do not want to lose. Use Google Account

How to backup

It is not a secret that the Android platform is being developed and maintained by Google. Therefore, you can easily integrate other corporation’s services to extend Android opportunities. One of the main advantages you can enjoy is transferring your contacts to Google servers. It means that you are not relying on the memory of your mobile phone or SD card. No matter what device you use, you can easily get access to all your contacts by only signing in your Google account. If you go this way, your contacts will be periodically saved to the cloud automatically, and will not need to manage it manually.  There are steps to activate this feature:

  • Open Settings on your Android device;
  • Scroll down and tap the ‘Accounts’ option;
  • Find your Gmail or Google account and press it;
  • Make sure that the ‘Contacts’ feature is checked. In some devices, it is selected by default, in others, you need to do it manually. Also, ‘Contacts’ can be named as ‘People’.

How to restore

If you have completed all the steps above, now you can try to retrieve the contacts from the other Android device. For this:

  • Open the ‘Settings’ tab;
  • Looking for and select ‘Google’ option;
  • Then, find the ‘Restore contacts’ option in ‘Services’. Note, the name or location may slightly differ. It depends on the device and the year of launch;
  • The phone will ask you about the account you want to use to restore the contacts. Select the right and move on;
  • After that, tap ‘Restore’. Wait a couple of minutes for the confirmation message and close the window. That’s all!

Use a SIM card

This method was very popular before the cloud services invention. If you are not afraid of being losing your mobile phones and want to keep all the contacts on the SIM card, use this method. Also, you can switch the devices that use different platforms such as Android and iOS and keep all the contacts safe. Follow these steps to transfer the contacts on the SIM card:

  • Open the ‘Contacts’ tab (in some devices, it can be labeled as ‘People’);
  • Press the menu button and select ‘Settings’;
  • Press the ‘Import’/’Export’ option;
  • You will see several options — select the SIM card;
  • Follow the provided instructions.

How to restore

To restore the contacts, you do not need to do anything. Seriously! Just transfer the SIM card to another device, and all your phone numbers will appear automatically. The main advantage of this method is that you do not worry about the platform your device uses because, in the first case (discussed above), you can’t restore the contacts on iOS devices. The disadvantage is that the SIM card’s memory is not so big, therefore, if you have a lot of contacts, this method is not a good choice for you.

Use SD card or USB storage

How to backup

Some people do not want to use clouds. The reasons can be different. For example, due to the number of privacy issues raised in the recent time, they do not trust the clouds. SIM cards are also not a very safe and reliable way: for example, if you lose your phone or someone steals it from you, then all contacts will be lost or will fall into the hands of attackers. There is the third method: store the contacts on the SD card or USB. Maybe, it is an old-fashioned way, but it provides you with additional reliability. The main disadvantage is that you always need to make new copies manually. To save:

  • Open the ‘Contacts’. Remember that it can be named ‘People’?
  • Tap the menu button;
  • Find and press ‘Settings’;
  • Select ‘Import’/’Export’;
  • Select the place where you want to keep the contacts;
  • Follow the instructions.

How to restore

If you save the contacts on the SD card, then just transfer this card to a new device, and all the contacts will display automatically. If you choose to keep the phone numbers on USB, you need to connect the mobile device with the computer and transfer the contacts from USB to the phone.
